Eddie Shore, Part Deux (December 2007): APT in the playoffs. Shootout. Old Time Hockey. You do the math.

Eddie Shore??? (August 2007): Merely getting to a championship game at any level should not be a goal in and of itself, even though APT had not made it that far during the time I have played for them. So I guess from that standpoint, the session was a success.

The first round matchup was favorable, and APT scored a good win over Gallo's Bats. The second round game was a bit tougher, especially since the team was missing some key personnel. Adversity was overcome in a hard fought shootout win. But luck ran out in the matchup with Old Time Hockey, and APT came out on the short end of a 3-2 score.

There's always next session. (Maybe...)

For The Birds (April 2007): For the second time in the past three sessions, APT tasted playoff success in round one only to be denied a trip to the championship game by the Gulls. What a fowl development...

Missed It By That Much... (December 2006): I hate shootouts.

After a first round whitewashing of the Eskimos and a second round whitewashing of the Panthers, the fall championship game came down to a shootout, which was of course won by the ringered up Arrowhawks.

Same Old Situation (December 2006): First round playoff losses are always a possibility (unless your team does not make the playoffs, in which case your team would probably be hoping for a chance at a first round playoff loss), as APT discovered in our fall session first round game. I certainly hope that the Applied Performance Technology streak of first round playoff exits does not come close to the previous streak.

Slow Tournament Start, Strong Finish (August 2006): The first two games of the 2nd Annual MDA Hockey Tournament at the Chiller Easton did not go so well for the good guys of Applied Performance Technology, resulting in two losses mainly due to shoddy goaltending. However, the situation improved with Saturday night's squeaker over Old Time Hockey and carried over to Sunday morning's rematch with Team Care, for which APT secured a 3rd place tournament finish with the win.

Three-peat Denied (August 2006): After a nice win in the opening round of the playoffs against the Panthers, things fell apart in the game vs. Lady Chatterly's, and the Blades dropped their first playoff game on my watch.

Progress (August 2006): A second round playoff exit usually always is better than a first round playoff exit. Applied Performance Technologies fell short of the ultimate goal, but winning one playoff game was a step in the right direction.

Off The Schneid (August 2006): I guess all it took to finally win a CAHL playoff game for The Stingers, er, I mean Iceyard Dawgs, er, I mean, Applied Performance Technologies was to move up to the upper division of Wednesday night teams. Usually I would wait until the end of the playoff run to post the news, but this occasion prompted special notice. Final score from Chiller North (8/9/2006): APT 4, Sabre Cats 2.

Here is the run of playoff game futility that was broken with the aforementioned victory (or at least, those games that I have been involved in, there may have been more before I came onboard with The Stingers):

Heartbreak Hotel (May 2006): The maiden voyage of the rechristened Applied Performance Technologies (the artists formerly known as The Iceyard Dawgs) did not end as well as hoped.

Friday night's game was close, but ended in an APT victory. So too did the two games on Saturday to set up a championship game matchup with Grimes Plumbing. They turned out to be too strong and secured a 5-3 victory, and took home all the goodies. At least this year was more competitive than the Fifth Third team from last year that lost all 3 games in the same tournament.

Back-to-back Blades (April 2006): Once again, the Blades rose to the occasion in the Friday Night Chiller Adult Hockey League playoffs. We knew it would be tougher this time, as we weren't likely to sneak up on anyone after a pretty solid regular season.

Defense was the focus in the playoffs as we defeated the same 3 teams in this session's playoffs (Clown Punchers, The Panthers, and Dirty Dozen) as last session, but this time with 3 shutouts in a row to win the championship. Here is the team picture that was posted to The Chiller's web site:

And if you are interested, I made PDF of the Friday night playoff recap pages from The Chiller web site, click here to view the page from the championship game, and click here to view the recap from round 2 of the playoffs.

Et tu, Iceyard Dawgs? (April 2006): Another session, another first round playoff exit. However, I predict that the Iceyard Dawgs will NEVER lose another first round playoff game again, ever.

Cinderella Story (December 2005): I wanted to give extra special thanks to the guys from The Blades, part of the Friday Night Chiller Adult Hockey League. They asked me to skate with them when their regular goalie became unreliable, and in small part with my help, we were able to squeak into the playoffs.

Once into the playoffs, The Blades were an unstoppable buzzsaw, defeating the top 3 ranked teams in the league (Dirty Dozen, Clown Punchers, and The Panthers) in 3 successive weeks to win the championship. Here is the team picture that was posted to The Chiller's web site:
